Two Views of Amroth

Amroth I

If gorse on cliffs is gold
then what's the colour for sand
and where are the words for
how it feels between my toes?

Amroth II

Sasha leaves skid-marks on wet sand.
He has found a pool, a pool,
and there is a sea-anemone
and a dead starfish and a green crab
that walks sideways.

Twenty-five summers ago
I fetched water from that pool
for a picture AM was painting
which has hung above my mantlepiece
in four homes now.
